You will clear through CBP (Customs and Immigration) when you drive accross the border.
Once you are in the US you will not have to clear CBP again (unless you are departing the US for a foreign destination and you are stopped for an inspection).
The normal checks by TSA (security) will be conducted at the airport but they ARE NOT ';Customs.';Traveling to us from canada, i have cross the border by car. leave car at airport, do i have to clear customs?
I don't see why you would be excempted.
Americans have to clear customs while travelling so why would you as a canadian not have to ?
Of course their is the border crossing with your car and when you get to the american airport ( as you know they are very strict due to 911) you'll have to go through their security again
